Edges tuning
The art of edges tuning
Safety and performance thanks to perfect edges
If you enjoy downhill skiing or ski touring, you know how important sharpening the edges of your skis or snowboards is.
It’s a matter of fact that the ski edges wear down very quickly, the ski lacks precision, and the grip on snow and ice is compromised.
Sharpening the edges frequently is important for ensuring safety and performance on the slopes, especially if you are frequent skier.
Sharpening ski edge angles with Moonflex means you can count on having the right stability, especially when cornering, without having to rely on a ski-man or specialized workshop every time.
Minifile
If you are a less experienced user or simply want to have your file sharpener handy even on the ski slopes, choose the Moonflex Minifile line. Thanks to the small size of the files (70 x 25 mm) you can carry them with you in your pocket. Put them on the 87° or 88° Minituner square and use them with a little snow.
How to sharpen the edges?
- Check the condition of the edges and the base
- Wet the Moonflex file and run it on the edges (help with Minituner Handle). Make sure the entire surface of the edge is filed.
- Start using grit 100 (the black file)
- Use Moonflex with grit 200-400-600-1500 gradually increasing the grit until mirror-like surface is achieved.
- Sharpen the edges by yourself after each ski session and ask a professional ski-man at least once a year.
Recommendations
Moonflex diamond files must be used wet, spraying a mixture composed of 50% water and 50% alchool directly on the tool while used. If used on ski slopes, a little bit of snow would be enough to keep the file wet. Never use the file when dry!
Do not use Moonflex freehand. Always use a proper tool to keep the file in position, perfectly stable and flat. Minifile files can be used with Minituner Handle.
After use, we recommend cleaning Moonflex with a brass brush and the same water/alcohol mixture used while sharpening the edge. If used properly, a Moonflex file will allow you to tune some hundreds of edges.
Professional
If you are a ski-man or a more experienced tuner you will prefer the Moonflex Professional line, with files sized 103.5 x 26 mm. Place your ski on a workbench and use the Professional files with angled squares according to the performance you wish to achieve. Do not use Moonflex freehand. Always use a proper tool to keep the file in position, perfectly stable and flat.
Preparation and finishing of the edges should be done by following this procedure: prepare the side angle of ski using Moonflex grit 100 (black), then moving on to the other grits (200-400-600-1500) to obtain a mirror finish.
After use, we recommend cleaning Moonflex with a brass brush and the same water/alcohol mixture used while sharpening the edge. If used properly, a Moonflex file will allow you to tune some hundreds of edges.
